If you get it as Verizon, it remains locked only for 60 days, and after that it auto unlocks. I can't speak for T-mobile/Sprint and AT&T as I never bought a phone on best buy on any of those carriers.

What you have to watch out for is people selling phones unlocked BUT not paid off through a carrier. They can blacklist that phone despite being “unlocked”.
