Arsenal have reached the Champions League quarter-final in successive seasons following a 9-3 aggregate win over PSV Eindhoven. With the Gunners 7-1 up following last week’s ruthless performance in Eindhoven, it made the second leg somewhat academic as PSV required a miracle and an unlikely collapse from the Gunners to advance.

Arsenal host PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday in the second leg of this UEFA Champions League last-16 matchup. The visitors need a historic comeback.  The Gunners notched up an emphatic 7-1 away win in the first leg,

Manager Mikel Arteta called the win “very significant” but admitted it was only a stepping stone and not the final destination for his side — a point which was driven home by another lackluster performance in a 1-1 draw with a terribly poor Manchester United side on Sunday.

Arsenal advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals in consecutive seasons eliminating PSV Eindhoven from the competition. Leading by six goals on aggregate, Arsenal were heavy favorites to advance on the night.

PSV Eindhoven takes on Arsenal in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 matchup on Wednesday, March 12.
