The Trump administration is considering issuing sweeping travel restrictions for the citizens of dozens of countries as part of a new ban, according to sources familiar with the matter and an internal memo seen by Reuters.

The third category has 26 nations including Pakistan and Bhutan. They could face a partial halt to US visa issuance if their governments don't remedy deficiencies within 60 days. However, a US official, requesting anonymity, warned that the list was still fluid and hasn't been approved by the administration yet.

US officials said the travel restrictions would be broader than the curbs imposed during the first term of Donald Trump, when he banned travellers from seven majority-Muslim nations.

The proposed travel bans follow an Executive Order by Trump on January 20, authorising government officials to compile a list of countries 'for which vetting and screening information is so deficient as to warrant a partial or full suspension on the admission of nationals from those countries.

The third group includes 26 countries like Pakistan, Bhutan and Myanmar. As per memo, these countries would be considered for a partial suspension of US visa issuance if their governments "do not make efforts to address deficiencies within 60 days".
