Izzo is surpassing milestones and reached a big anniversary of his lone title. At 70, with a highly ranked team, he's hoping to add to his legacy.

The Michigan State Spartans are on a major role as they pursue the Big Ten Conference tournament. Tom Izzo’s team pulled off a 74-64 victory over the Oregon Ducks in the quarterfinal round Friday as the Spartans began their run in the tournament with an effective performance featuring 17 points from freshman Jase Richardson.

First of all, I want to start by saying that I don't think Tom Izzo is retiring anytime soon. A few years ago, the topic of Tom Izzo's successor was a very hot topic in the Michigan State basketball community as it looked like the Spartans may have lost a little steam amidst the changing world of NIL and the transfer portal.

And apparently he isn’t. “He has the energy of a young coach,” freshman Jase Richardson was saying in the Michigan State locker room Friday, fresh off scoring 17 points to lead the Spartans over Oregon, 74-64, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament. “Sometimes when you’re out there, you think he’s you’re age.”

In 30 years as Michigan State’s head coach, Izzo owns a career record of 733-300, with his 360 Big Ten wins — and counting — the most by a coach in conference history. Izzo’s 11th conference title tied Indiana’s Bob Knight and Purdue’s Ward “Piggy” Lambert for the most in Big Ten history.
