Donald Trump administration is finalizing a three-level travel restriction that could significantly curb entry into the United States for citizens from as many as 43 countries, the New York Times reported.

Although the list is not yet finalized and changes are possible, it will require the approval of the administration, in addition to the consent of Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

US officials said the travel restrictions would be broader than the curbs imposed during the first term of Donald Trump, when he banned travellers from seven majority-Muslim nations.

The Trump administration is considering imposing broad travel restrictions on citizens from several countries, according to sources and an internal memo seen by Reuters. The memo outlines three levels of restrictions for 41 nations.

The third group includes 26 countries like Pakistan, Bhutan and Myanmar. As per memo, these countries would be considered for a partial suspension of US visa issuance if their governments "do not make efforts to address deficiencies within 60 days".
