It was a rarity in Hollywood awards season: a body horror satire with a 62-year-old female lead that spits in the face of the entertainment industry’s sexism and splatters enough blood and guts at the screen to make even David Cronenberg nauseous.

Demi Moore has made a triumphant return to the Golden Globes, winning best actress for a role in a body horror which has revitalised her career. The 62-year-old gave an impassioned speech as she collected her award, telling the audience she was "at a low point" before being cast in The Substance.

"The Brutalist" and "Emilia Pérez" triumphed, "Shōgun" and "Hacks" had big nights, and Nikki Glaser reminded viewers what it's like to have a host who's actually funny in the most memorable Golden Globes ceremony since the awards show nearly atomized a few years ago.
